Workers Educational Association

The Workers' Educational Association, which was founded in 1903, aims to provide high quality learning opportunities for adults from all walks of life, but especially those who may have missed out on learning in early life, or who are socially and economically disadvantaged.

The WEA is now the major national voluntary adult education organisation in Britain providing over 10,000 courses each year for over 100,000 students. It is recognised and financially supported by central and local government. The WEA is a registered charity and non-party political.

The WEA is controlled by its members. Many of our courses are planned and promoted by our network of over 650 local WEA Branches run by voluntary members. At all levels the WEA is governed by its voluntary members.

The WEA also works closely with a range of partners including Local Education Authorities, Universities and other voluntary and community organisations.

The WEA is a national, regional and local organisation. It employs well over four hundred permanent staff as well as thousands of part-time course tutors.

The WEA's National Association has its headquarters in London.

Many years of working at a local level in the field of education with refugee and asylum seekers. Providing language, orientation, family learning, community interpreting and basic skills courses. At a local level this is done through working closely with refugee and other Immigrant or ethnic minority organisations, The WEA has a ränge of experience in participating in and managing national and transnational partnerships to deliver programmes and develop projects. Such work has for example in the past been supported by the European Social Fund, Directorate General 8 of the European Commission, the UK National Lottery scheme, äs well äs DK Government departments including Education and Employment, International Development and the Hörne Office.
